TomTom and Microsoft have partnered to deliver maps and traffic data in return for artificial intelligence capabilities.
The new partnership was confirmed by Harold Goddijn, Chief Executive Officer, TomTom in a news release on Monday.
As per the release, Microsoft’s solutions, which are used by hundreds of millions of people and organisations daily, will be powered by TomTom’s maps and traffic data for location-based services.
The two companies will collaborate closely to bring new products to market, including ones that employ artificial intelligence.
TomTom also reiterates its long-standing relationship with Microsoft Azure as its cloud supplier of choice.
A similar collaboration between Microsoft and TomTom was already in progress to create an AI driving assistant.
Newsng gathered that the updated agreement goes beyond this specific use situation.
Microsoft, on the other hand, can enhance its portfolio by adding location-based services. Integrating these services with Microsoft 365, Bing, Power BI, and Azure Maps is of interest.
Azure Maps is a solution that handles location data for customers and is only focused on it.
“We are excited to strengthen our relationship with Microsoft. Microsoft is already rolling out TomTom’s Traffic, based on our new TomTom Orbis Maps, and we look forward to further supporting them with the freshest and most accurate location data,” said Goddijn.
“Through this collaboration, we will create innovative, AI-based products that are set to deliver customer value.”
TomTom powers Microsoft’s Azure Maps location services, and the two firms have been collaborating since 2016.
Reacting to the partnership and plans, Nicholas Lee, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Maps & Local said:
We’re pleased about the product innovations that we will be able to bring to life as part of our continued relationship, with the added support of Microsoft’s AI technologies.
“By hosting their services in Microsoft Azure, TomTom’s location technology interfaces seamlessly with our services, benefiting customers across industries.”
