Don Jazzy, a Nigerian music producer, has donated the sum of ₦6M to a female footballer in need of knee surgery after sharing on social media that she had twisted her knee and it had swollen up immediately. According to Anthonia, she sustained the injury while playing for the Nigerian National Team against FCT coaches on the Area 3 pitch in Abuja.
She said she had sought medical attention and had various scans, but it was only after an MRI at the Abuad Hospital that she discovered she had a torn ACL and needed to have surgery immediately to be able to play football again. She wrote on Instagram that she was unable to afford the cost of the surgery and was struggling to get the money to pay for it.
“I was injured while playing in the second half of the match on November 23rd, 2022, and was stretchered off the field. My knee swelled up immediately and I was told to take a break. After some days, I began to feel severe pain in my knee and I went for an X-ray scan”.
“The doctor prescribed some medication and I thought I would be fine as long as I took it. However, when I returned in January, I discovered that the club had kicked me out of the junior team and reduced my salary without providing me with any medical care. I sent several messages to our club’s Chairman, but there was no replies”.
“In August of 2023, I went to Nisa Premier Hospital in Abuja for another X-ray and the orthopedic doctor suggested I undergo an MRI scan. I did the scanning at Abuad Hospital, Ado Ekiti. The results showed that I tore my ACL [Anterior cruciate ligament], and I need immediate surgery to get back playing football. I’ve been in pain for over a year, and I’ve had to use crutches, take pain medication every day, and wear a knee brace”.
“I cannot go for trainings due to the injury. I know injuries happen in sport, and I’m sorry and scared, but I’m determined to get back on my feet. I know it’s hard to ask for help and share this story, but I’m not financially or emotionally able to do this on my own. The cost of treatment and surgery is estimated to be around ₦5 to 6 million”.
“I would really appreciate any help and donations, no matter how much it is. Don Jazzy came across her post and donated 6 million Naira for her surgery as shared in a receipt he posted online, alongside wishing her a quick recovery”.
