The Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) has been indicted by reports indicating that the Nigeria Police Force has been implicated in an N3 billion bribery scandal.
Reports indicate that the PGF, a body consisting of governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) compromised NPF senior officers to influence the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State.
”The governors are keen to increase their ranks, especially ahead of the 2027 elections and they see Edo as one of the states to help them achieve their aim,” a source revealed.
Another source close to the situation claimed that the money was specifically provided to ensure a favourable outcome for the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
”They are desperate at this point and they want Edo through electoral manipulation and intimidation tactics,” the source said.
The bribe is said to be aimed at undermining the integrity of the electoral process and securing an advantage for the APC in the forthcoming election.
The allegations come amid ongoing concerns about the credibility and fairness of the upcoming election.
Already, civil society groups in Edo state have raised an alarm saying such actions compromise the democratic process and undermine public trust in the electoral system.
The police have yet to respond to the allegations, and the APC has not issued an official statement addressing the claims.
Recall that allegations recently emerged in Edo state that the APC is employing police intimidation tactics against its opponents.
According to a police source, the APC has compiled a list of loyalists from rival parties and is leveraging law enforcement to exert pressure on them.
The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the APC has strategically identified individuals known for their strong allegiance to opposition parties and is using the police to intimidate and coerce them.
