Ahead of the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been accused of spreading propaganda using fake court judgments.
The allegations suggest that the APC is actively procuring and disseminating fabricated legal decisions to mislead the public and sway opinion in their favour.
This was disclosed by sources close to the party in the state, warning residents to be wary of the ploy.
They revealed that these false court judgments are being used strategically to discredit opponents and create a false narrative that benefits the APC’s electoral prospects.
According to them, the tactics are reportedly aimed at influencing public perception and undermining confidence in competing candidates.
Already, the use of such deceptive practices is raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the potential for further erosion of trust in the political system.
”We are calling on Edo people to be wary of these guys. They are not interested in a free and fair contest. Their stock in trade is to promote false narratives to demonise their opponents.
”They have done it consistently in other states and they want to introduce such bitter politics in Edo. Our people must resist them. Campaigns should be issue-based and not based on fake news,” one of the sources told journalists.
In a related development, an attempt by the APC to tarnish the reputation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government in Edo State has been exposed as fake news ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
The controversy was started by Lucky Onobo, an APC chieftain, who circulated a video on social media alleging that palliatives (bags of rice) stored by the state government were being looted from the residence of a PDP leader.
However, a social media influencer has since investigated the issue and debunked the APC’s claims. In a follow-up video, the influencer revealed that the location cited as the house of a PDP leader was a school.
He added that the bags carried in the video were maize, not rice as alleged by Onobo.
