Hon. Dr. Kelly Inedegbor, the local government chairman of Esan North East Local Government Area in Edo has responded to a controversial video circulating on social media, accusing him of having ties with a thug apprehended with arms in the state.
The chairman has, in turn, accused an All Progressives Congress (APC) federal lawmaker, and his party of orchestrating the video to tarnish his reputation.
The video in question features an individual purportedly involved in a violent incident.
According to a statement from Okonofua Harry Osemobor, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, the video is part of a calculated attempt to damage Hon. Inedegbor’s image.
The statement argued that the local government Chairman is well-protected by police officers armed with AK-47 rifles and would have no need to recruit individuals with toy-like guns for security purposes.
The Chairman’s office emphasized that the local government Chairman had appropriately coordinated with security agencies, ensuring that adequate personnel were deployed during the political rally where the video was filmed.
The statement also clarified that Hon. Inedegbor does not know the individual featured in the video and had only learned that the person is the younger brother of Ebosetale Agogo, an APC chieftain and ally of former local government Vice Chairman, Hon. Saturday Iyoha.
The statement concluded by asserting that the video’s connections to APC figures further support the belief that it was a scripted attempt by the APC and Hon. Okojie to discredit the Chairman.
The Chairman’s office has called for a thorough investigation into the matter and reassured the public of their commitment to maintaining security and transparency in ENELGA.
In a related development, authorities in Edo have indicted Tony Adun, widely known as Tony Kabaka, an APC youth leader, along with nine other individuals, for their involvement in the recent violence that led to the tragic killing of a police inspector in Benin City, Edo State.
The indictment follows a thorough investigation and a public outcry for justice, amplified by social media influencers who released names and photos of the alleged perpetrators.
