Former Kaduna State Commissioner of Water Resources, Edward Percy Masha, has been elected as the new chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State.
Masha secured a landslide victory with 2,123 votes, defeating his main challenger, Comrade Danjuma Bello Sarki, who garnered 250 votes.
The tightly secured election occurred at the International Conference Hall of the Kaduna Trade and Investment Centre, also known as the Trade Fair Complex.
The process was monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), national PDP officers, and media representatives.
In his victory speech, Masha promised inclusive leadership and an open-door policy during his tenure.
He emphasized the importance of unity within the party, stating, “We would reach out to our members, reconcile everybody, and create an atmosphere that would carry everyone along.”
He also assured that his leadership would focus on ensuring the PDP’s success in the upcoming Local Government elections.
Other key figures elected during the State Congress included Alhaji Saidu Adamu, who was chosen as the party’s Secretary unopposed, and Godiya Ayuba Lolo, who secured the position of Woman Leader with 2,102 votes.
Hon. Mariya Dogo, a former member of the State House of Assembly, was elected as the State Publicity Secretary with 1,359 votes.
The outgoing PDP Chairman, Felix Hassan Hyet, a former Minister of Aviation, called on party members to support the new leadership to help restore the party to its former glory.
The newly elected officials were sworn in today, September 22.
