Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has emphasized the critical need to eradicate corruption, social injustice, and unrest across Nigeria.
He made the call during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.
Olukoyede pinpointed corruption as the underlying factor fueling injustice and societal discontent, adding that addressing the root causes of crises, including corruption and deprivation, is vital for effective system functioning.
“Corruption is the underlying factor of injustice. We should bridge the gap that is causing injustice.
“Social rancour is also caused by injustice. We must come together to rid our nation of injustice caused by corruption. What is good for one is good for all,” he noted.
Olukoyede urged the leadership of the PCC to strive for excellence, earning the trust and support of Nigerians.
He proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the existing collaboration between the EFCC and PCC, underscoring the necessity of a unified front against corruption and injustice.
In response, Chief Commissioner Abimbola Ayo Yusuf commended Olukoyede on his appointment and stressed the shared mandate of both commissions in addressing administrative injustices and corrupt practices in public and private organizations.
Yusuf emphasized the need for deeper collaboration, citing their legal empowerment to serve as official whistleblowers to law enforcement agencies.
Yusuf further proposed the establishment of a desk officer within the EFCC to facilitate seamless communication and cooperation, leveraging the PCC’s extensive presence across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
