If a user types the terms “cis” or “cisgender” on X, they may see a full-screen notification alerting them to the fact that the words contain language that the platform considers offensive and that using them could be detrimental and against our policies.
In June of last year, Elon Musk, the site’s owner, made a tweet that ”’Cis’ or ‘cisgender’ are considered slurs on this platform.”
People whose gender identity matches the sex they were assigned at birth are referred to as being “cisgender” in this context. Those whose gender identity conflicts with the sex they were assigned at birth are referred to as transgender, in comparison.
An alert will appear on the screen in full when attempting to publish a post in the X mobile app that contains the terms “cisgender” or “cis.”
“This post contains language that may be considered a slur by X and could be used in a harmful manner in violation of our rules.”
You can choose to either keep the post up to date or remove it. Interestingly, this caution appears to be limited to the mobile app.
Amid controversies from users, Musk has been claimed by some users to be allegedly connected to more than just gender inequality. There have also been times when he has been charged with racism.
“Elon Musk has been engaging in this disingenuous and inherently bigoted effort to redefine this term for nearly a year.
“The list of his hate-driven rhetoric and behaviour is too long to even list,” a spokesperson for GLAAD, a nonprofit LBGTQ advocacy group, told TechCrunch.
This action is interpreted as a subtle but explicit message from the company that transgender people might not feel accepted on the platform, which could discourage sponsors from thinking of it as a secure area for their products.
We earlier reported that to address the bot issue and allow posting on the social network, Elon Musk intends to charge new X members a nominal fee.
