A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna state, Hon Abubakar A. Abubakar, has dismissed insinuations in northern Nigeria that the LP is an Igbo party.
Hon. Abubakar made the clarification in a social media post on Tuesday, June 27.
He said his recent encounter with a man in his local government area made him realise that some people in the north still have that impression.
His words:
”As it is right now, everyone speaking the truth about Nigeria and our corrupt leaders, he/she will be tagged as Igbo.
”Yesterday during my consultation, I was asked by an elderly man under which party are you contesting, I said Labour Party, he said that’s and Igbo party.
”I took my time to educate the elderly man that Labour Party is not Igbo political party. It is a political party, just like other parties in Nigeria.
”That’s why I keep encouraging my northern brothers and sisters to embrace Labour Party as a political party for all Nigerians.”
Hon Abubakar is contesting to be the councillor representing Badarawa/Malali ward in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
His aspiration has excited the ‘Obidients’ camp, as he has received several donations nationwide from LP supporters.
Hon. Abubakar recently stated that he does not regret supporting the LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the 2023 general elections.
”I supported and campaigned for Peter Obi. I will do it today, tomorrow, next tomorrow till he emerges.
”I never regret supporting a man who stands under the foundation of honesty, transparency and integrity. I went to Abuja, the nook and cranny of Kaduna State, all for Peter Obi,” he said.
