Ethereum has just recorded one of its largest single-day surges in institutional investment, with major financial giants channelling roughly $1 billion into the asset. On-chain analytics platform Arkham revealed that the buying spree was led by BlackRock, which acquired approximately $640 million worth of ETH. Fidelity followed with $270 million, while Grayscale added around $80 million to its holdings.
The wave of institutional activity has boosted sentiment across the market. At the time of writing, ETH trades at $4,506.91, supported by a 24-hour trading volume exceeding $50.7 billion, representing a 4.76% gain in the past day.
Fresh data from blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain shows that, on August 12 alone, nine Ethereum ETFs recorded net inflows totalling 231,717 ETH, valued at $1.03 billion. BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust was the clear leader, securing 149,168 ETH worth over $663 million. This addition pushed its total ETH holdings to more than 3.19 million, valued at roughly $14.22 billion. Bitcoin ETFs also enjoyed a strong day, with $189.72 million in inflows.
Half of the top 20 U.S. exchange-traded funds are now tied to cryptocurrency markets—a striking indicator of how deeply digital assets have penetrated mainstream investment. ETF expert Nate Geraci noted that while over 1,300 ETFs have launched in 2025, crypto-related funds dominate in terms of net inflows.
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust leads the entire ETF market with $57.4 billion in inflows this year, followed by Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund at $12.1 billion. The iShares Ethereum Trust has also risen to prominence, accumulating $9.6 billion.
Other funds benefiting from the crypto boom include the YieldMax MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF, which, while not directly tied to cryptocurrencies, has attracted $7.2 billion, helped in part by MicroStrategy’s massive Bitcoin reserves.
Spot Ethereum ETFs have delivered record performances this year. In July alone, they attracted $5.4 billion in inflows, the highest monthly tally ever. That run extended into a 20-day streak of daily inflows before seeing slight outflows in early August, only to rebound strongly this week.
The continued momentum suggests that Ethereum is edging closer to full mainstream acceptance, with ETFs serving as a gateway for traditional capital to flow into the crypto ecosystem. The scale and speed of institutional engagement signal that Ethereum’s role in the broader financial landscape could expand significantly in the coming months.
