Former Ghanaian international Asamoah Gyan has tipped the Super Eagles of Nigeria as one of the top favourites to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Nigeria, which finished as runners-up at the last AFCON after a 2–1 defeat to hosts Côte d’Ivoire, will be pushing for a fourth continental title when the tournament kicks off in December.
“Nigeria did well; they were close the last two years,” Gyan said on the sidelines of the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, Morocco.
“Cote d’Ivoire did well, so we have a lot of teams. Morocco are also a strong contender who are also doing well.
“I will say these three teams I mentioned—Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, and Morocco are favourites.”
The Super Eagles have been drawn in Group C for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, alongside Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Nigeria will kick off their campaign against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in Fez on Tuesday, 23 December. The fixture marks the start of Nigeria’s quest for a fourth AFCON title after finishing as runners-up in the previous edition.
Group C promises competitive matchups, with Tunisia and Uganda expected to provide stiff challenges as the Super Eagles aim to progress to the knockout stages.
