Mauritania’s highly respected referee, Dahane Beida, has been appointed to officiate the Group C encounter between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Taifa Stars of Tanzania at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to reports, Beida will take charge of the fixture scheduled for Tuesday at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco, as both teams continue their quest for continental glory.
Beida is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most experienced and consistent referees, having officiated several high-profile matches across CAF competitions and international tournaments.
His reputation was further underlined by his nomination for the 2025 CAF Best Referee of the Year award, a recognition reserved for officials who demonstrate excellence, fairness, and composure at the highest level.
In addition to his on-field duties, Beida also played a key role earlier in the tournament as the head of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team during the opening match between hosts Morocco and Comoros.
That encounter saw the Atlas Lions begin their AFCON 2025 campaign on a positive note, edging past Comoros 2–0. Goals from Brahim Díaz and substitute Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the victory for Morocco.
The clash between Nigeria and Tanzania will mark only the second meeting between both sides at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles won the first encounter 3–1 in the opening match of AFCON 1980, and they will be hoping for a similar outcome as they begin their Group C campaign in Fès.
