FG deliberately denied Anambra Airport international status, says Public affairs commentator

Ejikeme Chimezie, a public affairs commentator, has accused the Nigerian government of deliberately abandoning the Anambra International Airport.

Chimezie alleged that federal government officials conspired to ensure the airport does not get an international status.

He further stated that to this day, no international airline takes off or lands in the southeast.

His words:

“Anambra International Airport is the second largest airport in Nigeria, built with night landing facilities, and it is assumed to accommodate the landing of the biggest plane made by man.

“But, the federal government deliberately denied it international status, rendered Enugu airport nearly comatose with unending renovations, and then made transit from/to Port Harcourt unbelievably expensive!

“No reputable international airline takes off or lands in the southeast. None! The aviation ministry should create thousands of jobs for everyone! Where is the Justice?

“Peter Obi is big on production in his message and largely focuses his attention on the “vast land in the north”, which is good for agrarian revolution for all.

“But, I believe he should also look into this brazen injustice and decentralize Nigeria properly for all round development!”

When reminded by one of his followers on Twitter that the southeast region has had three aviation ministers since 1999, Chimezie responded by quoting a Chinese adage which says:

“The fish rots from the head.”

On December 2, 2021, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority issued the Anambra State Government the authority to open the airport for commercial operations.

The facility began commercial operations on December 7, 2021.
