The Minister of Youth Development, Dr Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, has announced that the ministry is set to collaborate with the American Tower Corporation (ATC) Nigeria to offer free training on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for Nigerian youths.
According to her, the partnership aims to create opportunities for youth empowerment and equip them with relevant skills for the 21st-century economy.
Dr. Bio-Ibrahim emphasized the ministry’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for youths to thrive, aligning with the vision outlined by President Bola Tinubu.
She stated that the collaboration with ATC will focus on ICT, recognizing its significance in the digital age.
Representatives from ATC, led by Mr. Ehize Ilozavbie, the African Public Affairs Manager, visited the minister to discuss the potential partnership.
Mr Ilozavbie highlighted ATC’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
The organization operates in 33 states and has skill acquisition centres designed to offer free training to community members.
ATC currently has over 8,000 telecom towers across the country, with approximately 98% of the sites utilizing renewable energy.
The organization has trained more than 50,000 Nigerians at no cost, contributing to skill development and employability.
As part of ATC’s programs, “Girls in ICT” focuses on training female students from secondary schools in ICT, aiming to bridge the gender gap in technology-related fields.
The organization’s initiatives have empowered local communities and opened employment opportunities for graduates both within and outside Nigeria.
