The Federal Government has proposed a total expenditure of ₦51.59 trillion in the 2026 Appropriation Bill, with significant allocations directed at security, infrastructure, power, education, and social services, according to details released by the Budget Office of the Federation.
A breakdown of the budget by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) shows that personnel costs, overheads and capital expenditure account for the bulk of the proposed spending, with no provision for aid or grant-funded projects in the presented summary.
The Ministry of Defence emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries, receiving a total allocation of ₦3.15 trillion, covering personnel, overhead, and capital expenditure.

Similarly, the Ministry of Police Affairs was allocated ₦1.33 trillion, while the Office of the National Security Adviser received ₦664.1 billion, underscoring the government’s continued focus on national security.
The Ministry of Interior was allocated ₦696.4 billion, while the Police Service Commission received ₦2.39 billion.
Infrastructure development featured prominently in the 2026 proposal. The Federal Ministry of Works was allocated ₦3.49 trillion, largely for capital projects. The Federal Ministry of Power received ₦1.11 trillion, reflecting government efforts to address electricity generation and distribution challenges.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) was also allocated ₦460.7 billion, entirely for capital expenditure.
The Federal Ministry of Education was allocated ₦2.39 trillion, while the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare received ₦2.15 trillion, signalling sustained investment in human capital development.
The Ministry of Youth Development was allocated ₦518.3 billion, and the Ministry of Women Affairs received ₦154.3 billion.
The Federal Ministry of Finance received one of the highest allocations at ₦16.78 trillion, reflecting its role in debt servicing, fiscal coordination, and economic management.
The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning was allocated ₦9.10 trillion, while the Presidency received ₦355.1 billion.
Agriculture also received notable funding, with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security allocated ₦1.45 trillion. The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment received ₦87.4 billion, while the Ministry of Environment was allocated ₦164.1 billion.
According to the summary totals, the 2026 budget comprises:

₦18.51 trillion for overheads
₦18.45 trillion for capital expenditure
This brings the total proposed expenditure to ₦51.59 trillion.
