Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, CON, has inaugurated the refurbished National Model Creche and Nursery in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The facility, operational since April 2001, had been inactive following the bomb explosion at the Police Headquarters in June 2011.
Represented by Hajia Nana Shettima, the Wife of the Vice President, Senator Tinubu highlighted the significance of initiatives like the Workplace Nursery in fostering a stronger bond between mothers and their children, laying the groundwork for progress and a promising future for Nigeria.
Her words:
“This facility will serve as a preparatory ground for early childhood care, educational and recreational activities for the children, with the policy thrust to improve the Baby Friendly Initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
“As a mother and an advocate for a better life for families, I am passionate about championing initiatives that empower and uplift the lives of our citizens, especially our women.
“The establishment of the Work Place Nursery stands as a testament to this administration’s dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for working and nursing mothers”.
On her part, the Minister for Women Affairs, Dr Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, highlighted the facility’s potential to enhance productivity while providing a nurturing environment for children to grow.
She emphasized the government’s directive to ensure that women in both public and private sectors can balance early motherhood with their careers.
Named the Dr Mrs Victoria Gowan National Creche and Nursery, the facility in Asokoro aims to cater to nursing and working mothers from various sectors.
