RB Leipzig have officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian winger Suleiman Sani from Slovakian side AS Trenčín.

The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a contract that runs until June 30, 2031, and will wear the number 18 jersey for the Bundesliga club.

Marcel Schäfer, RB Leipzig’s managing director of sport, expressed excitement over the acquisition, highlighting the winger’s pace, physicality, and attacking threat. “Suleiman primarily plays on the left side, possesses great pace, is difficult to dispossess, and likes to make runs in behind. He also works hard off the ball and displays the right attitude,” Schäfer said.

Sani himself spoke to the club’s official website about the move, describing it as a “big step” in his career. “I am particularly impressed by the way the club develops young players, gives them confidence, and provides targeted support. I look forward to learning every day and giving everything for the team,” he said.

The deal had been planned in anticipation of the summer transfer window, but Leipzig moved quickly to make it permanent once the opportunity arose. Schäfer stressed that Sani would be given time to adapt to the Bundesliga and become an integral part of the squad.

Sani, a product of Akwa United in the Nigerian National League, moved to Europe in September 2024 and gained valuable professional experience at AS Trenčín. He scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 59 competitive appearances for the Slovakian club.

The young winger’s arrival strengthens Leipzig’s options on the flanks, giving the team added depth and versatility as they look to compete on multiple fronts in the Bundesliga and European competitions.
