Former Minister of Defence, Theophilus Danjuma, has called on Nigeria’s service chiefs to urgently end terrorism and banditry to restore peace across the country.
He appealed during the public presentation of the book Big Boots: Lessons from My Military Service, written by retired Major General Solomon Udounwa, in Abuja.
Danjuma stressed the importance of swiftly addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, calling on military leaders to act decisively in stopping the ongoing killings.
“The number one problem today is security, and we must end the pandemic, stop the killings that are going on in our country as soon as possible,” Danjuma said.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, responded by reassuring the public that the Nigerian Armed Forces are fully committed to restoring peace and security.
He emphasized the military’s dedication to maintaining integrity and honour in their operations despite ongoing challenges.
The book’s author, Solomon Udounwa, reflected on his military career and encouraged younger officers to learn from the experience of past generations, stressing the importance of discipline, professionalism, and courage in military service.
The event was attended by prominent military figures, including former Chiefs of Army Staff and Defence Staff, Tukur Buratai, Lucky Irabor, and Faruk Yahaya.
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the Nigerian military, pledging to use his constitutional powers to continue equipping, arming, and empowering the nation’s armed forces.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony of Course 32 participants at the National Defence College in Abuja on Friday, President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasized the critical role of strategic leadership in addressing Nigeria’s complex security and development challenges.
Acknowledging the sacrifices and achievements of the Nigerian Armed Forces in protecting the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of its citizens, Tinubu vowed to ensure that the military remains well-resourced and capable of fulfilling its duties.
