Ryan Salame, former co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets, is requesting a delay in his prison reporting date after being attacked by a dog.
Salame, who was sentenced to 90 months for charges related to the misuse of FTX user funds, was scheduled to begin his sentence on August 29.
His lawyers have asked for a 45-day postponement due to medical complications from the injury.
Salame’s legal team filed the request in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. They asked to move his self-surrender date to October 13, citing the need for urgent medical treatment and surgery.
The filing details that Salame was bitten in the face by a German Shepherd on June 29 while visiting a friend. After a physician’s consultation on July 3, further treatment recommendations were made on July 24.
Despite his injuries, Salame has remained active online. He posted on social media shortly after the attack, suggesting that a surgeon with opposing political views might intentionally harm him during treatment.
He also mentioned monitoring the Bitcoin 2024 conference and preparing for significant future interviews.
Salame was one of the first associates of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried to receive a prison sentence.
He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business and engaging in campaign finance fraud.
Unlike his former colleagues, Salame did not testify at Bankman-Fried’s trial. Bankman-Fried, sentenced to 25 years in prison on multiple felony charges, has filed an appeal.
Other key figures in the FTX case, including co-founder Gary Wang and former engineering director Nishad Singh, have also pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing in the coming months.
Former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison’s sentencing date has not yet been set.
