Fortnite has returned to the iOS App Store after being removed by Apple over four years ago, but it is only available in the European Union.
The game is now available on a new iPhone version of the Epic Games Store and through AltStore PAL, a third-party app store. The Epic Games Store is now available for Android users worldwide.
After years of feuding between Apple and Epic Games, you can now install Fortnite on your iPhone cleanly and legally, with no bizarre hacks required.
Epic had to release an explanatory YouTube video for the technique, which entails installing a separate Epic Games Store app via Safari and then downloading Fortnite from there instead of the standard App Store.
Thanks to the EU’s Digital Markets Act, Epic Games could create its game store and add its battle royale game.
“We are really grateful to the European Commission for not only passing the DMA and enabling store competition but also going in and robustly holding Apple and Google’s feet to the fire to ensure that they can’t just obstruct competition,” Epic CEO Tim Sweeney told Reuters and Bloomberg reporters in a press conference.
Apart from Fortnite, owners of European iPhones and users of Android devices throughout the world will get access to Rocket League Sideswipe and a brand-new game called Fall Guys for mobile devices through the Epic Games Store.
Sweeney said that Epic foresees “absolutely no trouble of being able to update Fortnite simultaneously, worldwide.”
Epic hopes to gain 100 million new mobile customers by the end of the year. Currently, the firm has 75 million monthly active users in its PC shop.
While the mobile Epic titles Store now only contains three first-party titles, the company is already in talks with third-party mobile developers.
Epic intends to launch a “curated” selection of third-party games on the mobile shop in December, according to VP and Epic Games shop GM Steve Allison, with self-publishing (which is already available on PC) slated to arrive in early 2025.
We earlier reported that Following considerable back and forth earlier this year, Spotify announced that Apple has permitted it to show pricing details to consumers in the EU within its iOS app.
