Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has expressed his determination to make a mark at Werder Bremen following his high-profile switch from Bayer Leverkusen.
The 24-year-old forward enjoyed a breakout season with Leverkusen, where his strength, link-up play, and clinical finishing turned him into one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting strikers.
His move to Werder Bremen is seen as both a fresh challenge and a chance for the talented striker to lead the line for a side eager to push into European places.
The 24-year-old, who won the DFB-Pokal and the Bundesliga in his debut season with Bayer Leverkusen, expressed his desire to experience a similar level of success with Werder Bremen.
“I don’t go into any season with personal goals I want to achieve,” he told the club’s official website.
“How many goals I want to score, etc. I want to be successful with the team. I want to win games. And I’d like to do that this season with Werder Bremen.”
Following his unsuccessful transfer to Serie A giants AC Milan, Boniface, who moved to Germany from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, also talked about joining Bremen.
“Yes, everything happened very quickly, which made me happy. I had very good discussions with the Werder officials, who immediately gave me a good feeling. I’m very happy to be here,” he added.
“I think the past few weeks haven’t been easy for me. The people in charge here at Werder presented me with a precise plan, which quickly won me over. I immediately said I wanted to follow this path, and I’m very happy that it worked out well.”
Bremen’s manager has hailed Boniface’s arrival as a statement signing, with the club banking on his ability to deliver goals and inspire younger players. For Boniface, the goal is clear — to settle quickly, adapt to Bremen’s system, and cement his reputation as one of the league’s most dangerous frontmen.
