The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the sacking of their head coach, Otto Addo, with immediate effect, just 72 days to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, news.ng reports.

The announcement was made on the FA’s official website in the early hours of Tuesday after the senior men’s national team, the Black Stars, lost 2–1 to Germany in an international friendly on Monday night.

The loss to Germany marks the fifth consecutive defeat for the Black Stars in international friendlies, which serve as warm-up matches ahead of the World Cup.

The FA did not announce a replacement for Addo at the time of this report.

According to the statement, “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately.

“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.

“The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”

Ghana is grouped in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

Ghana, one of West Africa’s football powerhouses, failed to qualify for the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted by Morocco.
