Former Real Madrid and Italy player Antonio Cassano has urged Italian Serie A side Napoli to recruit Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman, calling the skilful Nigerian the “perfect replacement” for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who recently made a high-profile move to French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain.

A major hole has been created in Napoli’s attack by Kvaratskhelia’s transfer to European champions PSG during the January window, for an estimated €75 million.

Ademola Lookman has come into focus as new Napoli boss Antonio Conte reportedly seeks a creative spark to complement his high-intensity approach.

Speaking with Viva El Futbol on Twitch, Cassano said, “I would go and get Lookman; it would be a sensational purchase,” according to All Nigeria Soccer and other Italian publications. “Gian Piero Gasperini, a brilliant coach, trains him, and he runs, scores, and assists.”

Growing rumours linking Lookman to Napoli have led to Cassano’s endorsement. A historic hat-trick in the Europa League final—which earned him the title of African Footballer of the Year—was the highlight of the 27-year-old Super Eagles forward’s remarkable 2023–2024 campaign.

Lookman scored 15 goals and registered five assists in Serie A last season, bringing his total goal contributions to 60 (39 goals and 21 assists) in 93 games since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig.
