The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria are gunning to qualify for the next round of the WAFU B Tournament in Ghana after securing a hard-fought 1-0 win against Niger Republic.
The coach Manu Garba tutored side had to toil for victory in the game when the team was reduced to ten men after Chibuike Okorie was sent off in the 63rd minute of the second half.
But despite the red card and being reduced to 10 men, the Golden Eaglets showed composure to score the game’s only goal when Rapha Adams converted his chance in the 31st minute.
The Golden Eaglets will now square up against Togo in their final group B game which is scheduled to take place at the University of Accra Stadium.
The Eaglets will qualify for the tournament’s semifinals if they pick at least a draw with the Togolese U-17 squad on Wednesday in the ongoing WAFU B tournament.
This comes after Garba reacted following his team’s goalless draw against their opponents, Burkina Faso, in the Group B opener of the ongoing WAFU B U-17 championship.
Garba, who spoke after the match, said that inadequate preparations for the tournament is to blame for the team’s lacklustre performance against Burkina Faso.
He said that the first game against Burkina Faso was the first international game for the Golden Eaglets, while their opponents and the Ghanaian U-17 team were part of a training tour.
