Alphabet’s Google has released a new smartphone app for Gemini, its artificial intelligence chatbot, on Apple’s App Store.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai made the news on X, which was previously known as Twitter.
Previously, iOS users could only access Gemini via switching to the main Google app or a browser.
Gemini, positioned as Google’s response to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which has about 250 million weekly users, intends to leverage Apple’s massive user base to increase its reach in a quickly expanding AI landscape.
The software, which is currently available on the Apple software Store, allows users to engage with Google’s artificial intelligence via voice, text, or even the iPhone’s camera, making it a more interesting and dynamic way to receive information and support.
“The Gemini app is now on iPhone, including Gemini Live in 13 languages (more to come). It’s available in the App Store starting today,” Pichai wrote.
This 87.5 MB app is compatible with iPhones running iOS 16.0 or later. According to the App Store, the app is available in English, Arabic, Bengali, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Marathi, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, and other languages.
However, one outstanding feature is the addition of ‘Gemini Live’, a real-time audio chat experience with Google’s AI assistant.
This feature seeks to provide an even more natural and fluid contact with the assistant, improving the user experience through live voice-based conversation.
“It’s great for when you want to practice for an upcoming interview, ask for advice on things to do in a new city, or brainstorm and develop creative ideas,” said Brian Marquardt, senior director of product management at Google and head of Gemini Experiences.
