Governor Peter Mbah has appointed Mr Andreas Gebauer as the Managing Director of Enugu Water Corporation.

Gebauer, a former project director at a highly specialized consulting company in Germany, had previously worked in the state with the management of Godfrey Okoye University.

According to WaterAid, over half of Enugu state’s residents lack essential water services.

The root cause of the strained water supply in Enugu is the land on which the city is built. It is a state with many hills.

Experts say the problem of pipe-borne water supply in Enugu has recently overwhelmed and outlived every administration in the southeast state.

Governor Mbah has vowed to address the issue. In a tweet on Sunday, June 4, 2023, the Enugu state chief executive assured residents that the challenges will soon be a thing of the past.

”Earlier today, I went round the state to Inspect the various water reservoir and pipes.

”As promised, we will ensure availability of water in our homes in the Enugu metropolis in 180 days. We will also waste no time in replicating same feat in Nsukka, Udi and Awgu axis.

”Together, we will make Enugu work,” he wrote on his official page.

Ibezim Bright, a resident in the state, wrote in response to the governor’s promise:

”If he can do the job, let him stay. Capacity is more important than skin colour. This is New Nigeria in action. Human talent is more important than oil.”

Ezenwa uchenna Valen advised the governor on the next step to take. He wrote:

”Your Excellency, kindly visit the one in Aku Igbo-Etiti local government area that has a large capacity to supply water to both Aku and other neighbouring communities. Good moves, sir.”

Obi-Nzekwe Obinna prayed for the success of the project with the words:

”May this plan of yours succeed, Sir! Just to remind you again that you have just 172 days left.”
