In a significant move to boost investment, business, leisure, and living standards in Enugu State, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has signed four critical bills into law.
The newly enacted laws, passed by the Enugu State House of Assembly, are designed to enhance property protection, manage public ranching, promote sports development, and address environmental and climate concerns.
Governor Mbah announced the signing of the bills via his Twitter handle, highlighting the strategic importance of each law.
The first is the Enugu State Properties Protection Law which aims to improve the ease of doing business in Enugu State by ensuring that property investors can confidently rely on the validity of their title documents.
Governor Mbah emphasized that the law is a strong deterrent against land grabbers, with severe penalties for those engaging in such illegal activities.
“People who come to Enugu State to invest in property must be confident that the title document that is issued to them is worth far more than the paper on which it is written,” Mbah stated.
The second is the Enugu State Public Ranch Management Law to address the issue of open grazing, which has been a source of conflict between farmers and herders.
The Public Ranch Management Law mandates the end of open grazing practices.
Governor Mbah clarified that the law is not an attempt to introduce anything other than ranching but to ensure a civilized approach to cattle management.
He added that the law will facilitate the establishment of proper abattoirs and cattle markets, ensuring that livestock activities do not disrupt local communities.
The third is the Enugu State Environmental and Climate Protection Law which sets out clear policies and plans for environmental protection.
Governor Mbah highlighted the urgent need to address environmental issues, including the depletion of the ozone layer, and to implement measures to safeguard the environment for future generations.
“We are all aware of the dangers that the depletion of the ozone layer poses to us as a people,” Mbah noted.
The fourth is the Enugu State Sports Development Fund Law aimed to build capacity, nurture grassroots talents, and promote school sports, thereby stimulating economic growth through sports development.
Governor Mbah underscored the economic potential of the sports sector, noting that the new law will play a crucial role in achieving these objectives.
He expressed his gratitude to the Honourable Speaker and members of the Enugu State House of Assembly for their swift action in passing the bills.
“I’d like to thank the Honourable Speaker and members of the Enugu State House of Assembly for their hard work in expeditiously passing the four executive bills,” he concluded.
