Guinness Nigeria Plc has returned to profitability with a pre-tax profit of N13.5 billion for the quarter ending June 30, 2025. This marks a significant turnaround from the N13.2 billion loss recorded in the corresponding quarter last year.
Cumulatively, the company’s pre-tax earnings for the year now total N27.9 billion, a sharp contrast to the N73.6 billion loss posted in the first half of 2024.
This strong recovery is attributed primarily to a robust jump in revenue alongside reduced foreign exchange losses. For Q2 2025, revenue surged by 49.85% to reach N118.6 billion.
On a half-year basis, revenue climbed to N496.6 billion, translating to a 65.82% year-on-year increase.
Domestic operations continued to be the primary contributor to this growth, making up more than 98% of the total turnover. Local sales hit N489.3 billion, while export revenue remained relatively minor at N7.2 billion.
Although the cost of goods sold also increased—rising from N55.3 billion in Q2 2024 to N73.8 billion—Guinness still posted a gross profit of N44.8 billion, up by an impressive 88.48% year-on-year.
Marketing and distribution expenses increased to N18.9 billion, compared to N14.4 billion in the same period last year, reflecting ongoing brand and logistics investments.
Nevertheless, the company registered a substantial operating profit of N18.1 billion, representing a 469.5% surge from the same quarter in 2024.
A key contributor to this profitability was the sharp decline in finance-related charges. These fell to N8.5 billion, down significantly from N30.6 billion last year.
Much of these finance expenses were previously linked to foreign exchange revaluation losses, which have now considerably subsided, improving bottom-line results.
Guinness Nigeria’s balance sheet also strengthened, with total assets growing to N273.5 billion as of June 2025, a 20.95% increase over the past year.
Retained losses narrowed to N30.1 billion, improving from N46.3 billion, signalling progress in financial recovery.
