Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of financial crime compliance, is experiencing severe health issues while detained in Nigeria.
His family reports that his condition has deteriorated significantly during his time in Kuje prison, known for holding members of the terrorist group Boko Haram.
Gambaryan has been in custody since February, and his family states he has developed double pneumonia and malaria.
The trial, involving money laundering charges against Binance and its executives, resumed with the cross-examination of a witness from Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission.
However, the court has been unable to obtain Gambaryan’s medical records from a hospital visit last month, despite multiple court orders.
Justice Emeka Nwite has demanded these records be handed over to Gambaryan’s lawyers by Friday.
Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, has expressed frustration over his detention, emphasizing that he was never a decision-maker at Binance and urging Nigerian authorities to release him.
U.S. Congress members recently visited Gambaryan and have called for further action from the U.S. government.
Another Binance executive involved in the case, Nadeem Anjarwalla, has reportedly escaped.
Meanwhile, Binance faces a separate tax evasion case, with a hearing set for July 12.
Binance has not commented on the situation. The trial is scheduled to continue on July 5.
