‘He’ll never become the President of Nigeria’ - Buhari’s aide speaks on Peter Obi

Bashir Ahmad, a media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared that Peter Obi will never preside over Nigeria.

Obi contested for the presidency in the 2023 elections under Labour Party and was declared the second runner-up by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He is now fighting to be declared the election winner at the presidential election tribunal.

Ahmad, a former staff of Leadership newspaper, says despite the efforts by Obi, he will never lead the country.

He was reacting to a comment criticising Obi over his comment on the recent spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

Obi had recently called on the government to address the raging attacks in both Benue and Plateau states.

A Peoples Democratic Party supporter, Kelvin Odanz, queried Obi’s stance on the issue, saying the LP presidential candidate should be more worried about the security situation in his region – the southeast.

Reacting to Odanz’s comment, Ahmad wrote on Twitter:

“That has never been a hidden agenda; saying Nigeria has dodged a bullet is an understatement.

“Until he becomes a true nationalist, commending, promoting, or condemning when necessary, all regions equally, he’ll never become the President of Nigeria, even in our wildest dreams.”

Earlier, Ahmad reacted to Obi’s comment saying:

‘’It’s frustrating how Peter Obi, for the innumerable times, publicly shielded and denied the role of IPOB for excessive insecurity in the East. That shouldn’t be a character of an aspiring leader of a complex country like Nigeria.’’

Some followers of Ahmad on the micro-blogging site queried the former presidential aide for his stance.

They stated that the Kano-born new media strategist should not be commenting on national issues because he worked under one of Nigeria’s worst presidents.

One such comment was by George Ikponwo, who wrote:

”If Nigeria were good, by now, you and your boss would be in prison for life because of what Buhari has done.”
