A tentative three-year agreement that includes restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence has been agreed between the workers union that represents the bulk of Hollywood’s film and television crews and major studios.
Reuters reported that International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), members are anticipated to approve the deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), a group that includes major players in the film and television industries like Disney and Netflix.
The AMPTP covers scale-rate pay increases scheduled during the contract on behalf of notable companies like Netflix and Walt Disney.
The union emphasised that pay increases of 7%, 4%, and 3.5% over three years are proposed in the deal.

On the AI front, the deal includes “language that ensures no employee is required to provide Al prompts in any manner that would result in the displacement of any covered employee.”
This clause aims to safeguard IATSE members’ employment in a sector that is progressively investigating AI uses.
After nearly six months of negotiations, which had stalled film and TV production, the SAG-AFTRA actors union and the studios came to a labour deal in late 2023.
The contract also included protections against the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in filmmaking, as well as wage increases and streaming incentives totalling, according to union leaders, more than $1 billion over three years.
