Members of the ad hoc committee established by the Federal House of Representatives to investigate the failures of Mass Transit Schemes in Nigeria since 1999 and propose solutions have embarked on a crucial visit to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
The committee, led by Hon. Victor Afan Ogene, visited LAMATA to acquire firsthand information and insights into the challenges and issues affecting mass transit schemes in Nigeria.
The visit is part of their comprehensive fact-finding mission to understand the failures’ root causes and develop practical solutions.
Hon. Ogene said the committee is particularly interested in the search for sustainable solutions to the Mass Transit Schemes challenges, hence the need to interface with key stakeholders and look out for valuable local content that may be explored to add value to future mass transportation schemes in Nigeria.
The investigation is a vital step toward addressing the transportation challenges faced by the country and finding sustainable ways to improve mass transit systems.
The findings and recommendations of the Ad-Hoc committee are expected to contribute significantly to developing and enhancing transportation infrastructure in Nigeria, ultimately benefiting the Nigerian people.
The committee also lauded the regulatory role of LAMATA in bus services in Lagos and the launch of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Lagos Rail Mass Transit – Blue Line system on the Marina to Mile 2 corridor.
