The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abbass, on Saturday, August 26, visited Alhaja Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila, the mother of the Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria and former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
The visit took place at Alhaja Gbajabiamila’s residence in Surulere, Lagos.
Former Speaker Gbajabiamila played a crucial role in ensuring the emergence of Abbass as the leader of the green chambers.
A statement from his media aides noted that the Speaker took the opportunity to engage with Alhaja Gbajabiamila, fostering ties trailing generations of leadership.
The statement added that the visit serves as a testament to the interwoven fabric of Nigeria’s political landscape, where relationships, history, and governance converge to shape the nation’s trajectory.
In addition to the family visit, the Speaker seized the occasion to inspect the ongoing developments at the Lagos office of the National Assembly, located at Onikan, Lagos.
According to his aides, examining the facilities underscores the nation’s commitment to efficient governance and legislative processes.
Alhaja Gbajabiamila, 93, a United Kingdom-trained nurse, was the first elected female Local Government chairman in Lagos State under the Lateef Jakande administration.
She was also a member of the Federal and State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards for many years.
