Mixed reactions have continued to trail the “surprise alerts” of millions of naira credited to the accounts of some members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Some members of the PDP had accused the leadership of the NWC of attempting to bribe them to support the party’s national chairman, Iyoorchia Ayu.
In several letters to announce their refund of the monies to the PDP, the members described the funds as a surprise.
Reacting to the development, the former spokesperson of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the monies were legitimately earned by the members.
“It is also good to understand that party leaders, who are officers of the party, have no salaries. Their entitlement is in allowances. I know there are housing and transportation allowances,” he said.
“Based on my experience, when you assume office as a member of NWC, you must submit your account number to the party’s finance directorate. So, whenever your entitlements are ready, they will be paid into your account,” he added.
He described the refund of the money as strange, adding that it has been the tradition of the PDP to pay entitlements to members of the NWC.
