Six stocks recorded significant gains on the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, with Chams Plc emerging as the standout performer in terms of year-to-date returns.

News.ng reports that the NGX traded 507.4 million shares worth ₦24.3 billion in 30,665 deals. Volume down 2%, turnover up 67%, deals down 14% as market capitalization was ₦92 trillion.

Cornerstone Insurance (CORNERST) led Tuesday’s gainers with a 9.9% increase, closing at 6.65 NGN per share, up from its previous closing price of 6.05 NGN. The insurance firm has delivered impressive returns since the start of the year, gaining 84.7% from its opening price of 3.60 NGN, which places it 58th on the exchange in year-to-date performance. However, investors are advised to exercise caution as the stock has declined 11% over the past four weeks, signalling recent volatility.

Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (CONHALLPLC) followed closely, posting a 9.5% gain to close at 4.37 NGN per share, compared to 3.99 NGN in the previous session. The company has recorded a solid 26.7% gain year-to-date from its January opening price of 3.45 NGN, ranking 98th on the NGX performance chart.

Chams Plc (CHAMS) climbed 9.2% to close at 4.62 NGN per share, up from 4.23 NGN. The technology solutions company has been the star performer among the day’s gainers on a year-to-date basis, surging an impressive 132% from its opening price of 1.99 NGN to rank 34th on the exchange. Adding to shareholders’ optimism, Chams has posted an outstanding 64% gain over the past four weeks alone—the best four-week performance on the entire NGX.

VFD Group (VFDGROUP) also recorded a 9.2% gain, closing at 11.90 NGN per share from 10.90 NGN. However, the financial services group presents a contrasting picture for the year, having plunged 73.2% from its January opening price of 44.40 NGN, making it one of the exchange’s worst performers year-to-date at 147th position. Some relief for shareholders comes from the stock’s 5% increase since September 8th, which ranks 46th best on the exchange for that period.

International Energy Insurance (INTENEGINS) gained 8.8%, closing at 2.96 NGN per share compared to 2.72 NGN previously. The insurer has delivered a respectable 74.1% return year-to-date from its opening price of 1.70 NGN, ranking 68th on the NGX. Similar to Cornerstone, investors should note that the stock has lost 11% of its value over the past four weeks, indicating recent headwinds.

AXA Mansard Insurance (MANSARD) rounded out the top gainers with a 7.3% increase, closing at 17.00 NGN per share from 15.84 NGN. The insurance company has more than doubled shareholders’ investments this year with a 107% gain from its opening price of 8.20 NGN, ranking 49th on the exchange. The positive momentum continues with a 7% gain over the past four weeks, the 36th best four-week performance on the NGX.

Tuesday’s trading session highlighted the strong performance of insurance and financial services stocks, though investors are advised to consider both long-term gains and recent momentum when making investment decisions.
