A Nigerian medical partitioner has narrated how a house help who was HIV positive unknowingly transmitted the disease to three children under her care.
Dr Sina, with the Twitter, handle @the_beardedsina, disclosed that the house help transmitted the disease to the children because they were sharing the same nail cutter.
“A couple both negative. Three children tested HIV positive. Unknown to them, the househelp was HIV positive and was sharing a nail cutter with the kid,” he said.
He advised Nigerians who hire nannies, stewards, house helpers, and cooks to run blood tests before employing them.
“Please if you’re going to have a houseboy or housegirl. Try and do blood tests for them before employing them, including Hepatitis B and HIV, “the medical practitioner stated.
Dr Sina also pointed out that even if the home helper tests positive for any disease, employers should ensure they get their medications.
He said diseases like HIV can be well managed and no need stigmatising.
Although the post by Dr Sina generated huge reactions, News.ng was unable to independently verify the claims made by the medical practitioner.
