The manager of Manchester United, Rúben Amorim, has expressed regret to the fans after the team’s shocking Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town of League Two.
In a devastating loss on Wednesday night, Manchester United were eliminated from the competition in what has been called one of the biggest upsets in recent memory.
The outcome quickly infuriated supporters, who had anticipated a straightforward win over lower-league opponents, especially after the team lost to Arsenal and drew with Fulham in the EPL.
Amorim apologised to the club’s supporters and took responsibility for the defeat following the game, which saw Man United eliminated from the competition after a penalty shootout.
He said, “I think this is a little bit of the limit. I think something has to change,” Amorim said after the defeat to Grimsby.
“I think the team and the players spoke really loud today, so that’s it. [Tonight] I think the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch.
“I think the players spoke really loudly about what they want today.
“I just want to apologise to our fans.
“Something has to change, and you’re not going to change 22 players again.
“I think it’s really clear what they spoke, so let’s move on from this day. I think it was clear for everybody what happened.
“The way we started the game without any intensity, we were completely lost.”
