Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker, has urged famous Afro musician Davido to be mindful of his fans’ feelings anytime they criticise his work.
He also challenged the artist to apologise to his followers and fans who may have been offended by his work at any moment.
Mr Sani, a former senator from Kaduna Central stated this in a tweet on Sunday.
“As an artist or entertainer, If your fans feel offended by a piece or portion of your work, especially as it concerns their culture, faith or religious beliefs, it will be most honourable for you to delete or edit that portion, apologise to them and move on. I’m here talking about Davido. This is my own opinion,” Mr Sani said.
He was responding to the current controversy surrounding a video by Olamilekan Taiwo, nicknamed Logos Olori, a signee of popular Afro star Davido.
Davido posted the video to his Twitter account.
However, the video has since generated uproar across quarters, particularly among Nigerian northern Muslim, with many demanding an apology from the musician. They have also requested that the artist delete his tweet.
The News.NG understands that Davido deleted the tweet as of Sunday evening, but many people are still calling for him to apologise to the Muslim ummah they accused him of mocking.
On Twitter, a well-known northern influencer named @Waspaping who has been urging the singer to retract the video said, “Davido has finally deleted the Video. But that’s just the first step. We are waiting for an unreserved apology towards the Muslim ummah he made a mockery of
Tweeting further, he expressed gratitude to the signer for removing the tweet. He said, “You did the right thing taking down that video. All that’s left is for you to apologize for disrespecting millions of Muslims.
“It costs nothing to say I am sorry @Davido,” he tweeted.
Another popular influencer on Twitter @DanielRegha said, “Davido hasn’t apologized to Muslims, but instead he’s trying to suppress the issue by donating $10k to a lady who returned a misplaced $70k. This is also coming from someone who’s yet to fulfil the N20m promise he made to entrepreneurs since 2022. It costs nothing to say sorry.
The News.ng had reported how an educationist at Crescent University, Abeokuta, Dr Idris Oni, cautioned northern Muslims against exhibiting aggression towards issues concerning Islam in Nigeria.
According to him, there are credible Islamic institutions all around the nation that can resolve problems of contempt for the faith.
