Some women from the southeast region of the country have declared their support for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The women made their decision known at a colourful rally at the Hero Square in Owerri, the Imo state capital, on Wednesday, October 5.
The women had converged in Owerri from various states in the region on the platform of the APC Women Support Group.
Addressing the women, the wife of the Imo state governor, Chioma Uzodimma, urged them to vote for Tinubu and other APC candidates in the forthcoming general election.
“It is on record that the ruling APC in Nigeria of today has given women a lot of opportunities in politics and corporate governance more than any other,” Mrs Uzodimma said.
“The best leaders know how to get the most out of people; they enable the full potential in others.” These are the qualities we have found in Bola Tinubu right from when he joined politics and throughout the MKO Abiola struggle of 1993, the struggle and bustle for democracy; and he eventually reigned as the governor of Lagos state from 1999 to 2007,” she added.
Earlier, Governor Hope Uzodimma had received the APC national women leader, Betty Edu, and representatives of the various women groups at the Government House, Owerri.
The governor expressed confidence that the APC would be victorious at the 2023 polls.“In the southeast, APC is strong. “We are in every nook and cranny of the zone and we are solidly behind our presidential and vice-presidential candidates and all APC candidates in the zone,” Uzodimma declared.
