Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard has withdrawn from the Norway national team squad after picking up an injury during his club’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham in the Premier League.

The midfielder appeared uncomfortable in the first half of the game at the Emirates Stadium following a clash of knees with a West Ham player, prompting medical checks that later confirmed he would be unfit for Norway’s upcoming fixtures during the international break.

Norway’s Football Federation confirmed the news in a statement on Sunday, noting that the decision was made following consultations between the Arsenal medical staff and national team doctors.

“Martin Ødegaard will not join the national team camp after sustaining a minor injury in Arsenal’s recent match. He requires rest and further evaluation in London,” the statement read.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had earlier hinted at the possibility of fatigue and minor knocks among key players after a congested run of fixtures, describing Ødegaard’s issue as “a precautionary situation rather than a serious setback.”

The 26-year-old playmaker has been instrumental for both club and country, contributing goals and assists that have anchored Arsenal’s title challenge and Norway’s hopes in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.
