Instagram is releasing a significant update for Reels that will let it compete more successfully with TikTok and enhance its short-form video offering: multitrack audio.
The company disclosed the new development in a post seen by Newsng on Wednesday.
Newsng understands that users can include up to 20 tracks in a single Reel, according to the business.
“When you do this, you’ll also create your own unique audio mix that fans can save and reuse,” the app, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said in a post on Threads.
In the Reel editor, select the “Add to mix” option to include a new track. You can trim the songs once you’ve added them to just contain the desired audio.
According to the business, the new multi-audio track functionality will enhance the Reels platform experience.
Experts speculated that the function may be another strategy to gratify and support creators; Instagram irritated creators last year when it discontinued the Reels Play Bonus, but the platform has revealed various initiatives this year to regain their favour.
One audio track was all that designers could use in the past, which limited how they could combine voiceovers, sound effects, music, and other audio components.
By allowing producers to synchronise these elements with text, stickers, and video clips for an improved user experience, multitrack audio transforms the game.
“The launch of multitrack audio in Reels gives creators expanded creative flexibility with the ability to visually align audio with elements like text, stickers, and clips to express their creativity in a way that feels right for them and their audience,” the company said in a post.
In addition, Mosseri, who oversaw Instagram and Meta’s text-based social network tool Threads, claimed that while lengthier videos had been discussed, he believed that allowing them would conflict with Instagram’s business plan or potentially “undermine” the platform’s fundamental values.
We earlier reported that Meta has announced that it is lifting all previous penalties and limits from former President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
