Instagram, which is owned by Meta, is updating its inbox with new photo editing, sticker creation, and theme options.
The social media app is attempting to increase its appeal as a messaging platform by adding features that make conversations more interesting.
Thus, before sending a photo to a contact via direct message, users can now alter it by drawing on it or adding stickers.
Newsng gathered that you may apply filters or use tools like brightness, contrast, saturation, and more to adjust photos. In DMs, custom stickers are also functional.
With the upgrades, you can create a personalised sticker by cutting off an object from an existing photo and applying it to another photo.
While some of these capabilities may not appear to be novel, the goal is to remove any barriers that restrict users from sending messages.
Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, said that the platform has seen growth in the direct messaging space, thus it makes sense that the platform is emphasising new tools and capabilities.
In July, Mosseri stated that one of the main factors Instagram considers for ranking is the amount of direct messages a post receives. This shows how significant messaging is on the network.
“Think about making content that people would want to send to a friend, to someone that they care about, and it will help your reach over time,” he said in a video.
Instagram users now have access to a sticker creator within the direct message interface thanks to today’s feature release.
This is where you can take a picture from the library and make a reaction sticker out of a cutout of an object.
We earlier reported that Instagram is releasing a significant update for Reels that will let it compete more successfully with TikTok and enhance its short-form video offering: multitrack audio.
