A technical breakdown at Cloudflare briefly knocked several major crypto websites and parts of the social media ecosystem offline on Tuesday, leaving users around the world unable to access key platforms. The issue, which Cloudflare described as an “internal service degradation,” caused widespread frustration as both trading platforms and blockchain data services went dark without warning.
The disruption began late Tuesday morning, around 11:48 a.m. UTC, when Cloudflare’s systems started experiencing irregularities that affected traffic routing and website availability. Many users attempting to load the front ends of popular crypto exchanges and blockchain explorers were met with timeouts or error pages, prompting speculation of broader internet instability. In its system notice, Cloudflare confirmed it had identified the source of the problem and deployed a fix, adding that it believed the situation had stabilised but would continue monitoring to ensure full recovery.
During the outage, access to several high-traffic websites was either slow or completely unavailable. Crypto exchanges such as Coinbase, Kraken, and BitMEX, wallet provider Ledger, and blockchain platforms including Arbiscan and Blockchain.com all reported issues that appeared linked to Cloudflare’s network hiccup. Toncoin and DeFiLlama users were likewise affected, with some reporting that pages would not load for long stretches. Kraken was one of the first major platforms to announce that its systems had returned to normal, offering reassurance while other services were still struggling to come back online.
The problems weren’t confined to crypto-native platforms. Parts of the social media landscape were hit as well, with users on X and Truth Social reporting erratic performance and delays. The outage briefly restricted the ability of crypto communities to communicate, track market movements, and share updates during a period when many services were unreachable. However, other platforms — including BlueSky and Reddit — appeared to be unaffected, suggesting the glitch impacted only specific segments of Cloudflare’s global network infrastructure.
Cloudflare has not yet released detailed information about the underlying cause of the service degradation. The company emphasised that its team had moved quickly to implement corrective measures and restore stability across all affected services. Cloudflare outages, though relatively rare, tend to have an outsized impact due to the company’s role as a backbone for much of the modern internet. Its tools underpin security, performance, and hosting layers for millions of websites, including a significant share of the crypto industry.
By early afternoon, most platforms reported that their services had returned to normal. Even so, the episode underscored how dependent digital asset ecosystems — and the broader online world — remain on a handful of infrastructure providers whose technical setbacks can ripple across the web in seconds.
