Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Nigeria’s new Minister of Women Affairs, has outlined her vision to support women, children, and vulnerable populations during her inaugural handover ceremony in Abuja.
Focusing on closing the gender gap and advancing women’s empowerment, she detailed her plans for skill development, employment opportunities, and enhanced political participation.
Emphasizing protection and justice, Sulaiman-Ibrahim promised swift responses to gender-based violence and committed to safe spaces for women and children.
She also vowed to strengthen child protection against abuse and trafficking, appealing for collective action from stakeholders to achieve these goals.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim called on all stakeholders to join forces with her to achieve her goals, emphasizing that collective action, transparency, and relentlessness are needed to produce positive results.
“To every Nigerian woman, this is your time. Together, we will break down barriers, lift each other up, ensure your voices are heard, your rights are protected, and your dreams are within reach,” she stated.
The Minister praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for their dedication to women and children, pledging to build on previous policies, such as the National Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy.
On his part, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, expressed full support for Sulaiman-Ibrahim’s agenda, affirming the Ministry’s commitment to its mandate.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the critical role of core family values in driving national development.
Speaking to an audience of scholars, experts, and members of the public recently, Shettima highlighted the importance of love, mercy, harmony, and balance in the home, calling these values the bedrock of a healthy society and a thriving nation.
Shettima’s address, titled “In Defence of the Family Order,” outlined a holistic view of marriage and family life rooted in Islamic teachings.
