President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised definitive action against insecurity in Plateau State, known for its rich agricultural production, declaring that the time has come to dismantle the strongholds of violence, poverty, and hopelessness. He stated that this can be achieved through collective will and renewed security operations, news.ng reports.

The President, while addressing stakeholders during his brief visit to Plateau State on Thursday, said his administration is determined to restore peace and order.

“I brought the symbol of this cap to break the shackle, shackle of violence, shackle of ignorance, shackle of poverty, shackle of hopelessness. We must break it together. I thank the men and women of the armed forces, particularly the police, for what they are doing and what they are about to do. You must unearth and find the killers.

He commended personnel of the security agencies, urging them to increase the level of operations in the state.

He said, “I brought the symbol of this cap to break the shackle, shackle of violence, shackle of ignorance, shackle of poverty, shackle of hopelessness. We must break it together. I thank the men and women of the armed forces, particularly the police, for what they are doing and what they are about to do. You must unearth and find the killers.

“I’m glad IGP is here. I’m glad COAS is here, too, Chief of Army Staff. I’m glad the Minister of Defence is here,” he said.

Sharing his experience in Plateau during his youth, the President described the state as a land of peace and unity and asked why there should be division.

“I’ve been to Jos. I’ve enjoyed Jos in those days of peace. When I was active as a young man, you accommodated us, you opened your doors for us. Then why do we build a division?” he asked, calling on leaders to focus on development rather than destruction. “Our promise then was progressive development, an improved standard of living for our people. Not to bury, but to develop.”

On the victims of Sunday’s attacks and previous ones, the President assured that the necessary support will be extended to them.

“For their losses, we cannot replace a human being. But whatever we do to give them minimum comfort, we will,” he promised.
