German soccer tactician Jürgen Klopp has taken to social media to mourn the passing of Liverpool and Portugal striker Diogo Jota, who died in a ghastly auto crash in northern Spain.

The 28-year-old Liverpool forward and his 26-year-old brother, André Silva—also a professional footballer—were both killed in a car crash that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025.

According to reports, the tragic incident happened when the car in which Jota and his brother were travelling veered off the A-52 motorway and burst into flames moments after overtaking another vehicle.

An investigation into the precise cause of the crash is ongoing. The news has sent shockwaves through the football world, particularly as it comes just two weeks after Jota married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.

Reacting to the incident, Klopp—who once coached Jota—described the late player as not only a fantastic footballer but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband, and a devoted father.

In his farewell message shared on his official Instagram page, Klopp expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Diogo and his brother André.

He also used the opportunity to extend his prayers, thoughts, and strength to Diogo’s wife, Rute, their children, family, close friends, and everyone who loved them.

“This is a moment where I struggle! There must be a bigger purpose! But I can’t see it!

I’m heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother André.

Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father. We will miss you so much!

All my prayers, thoughts, and strength to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends, and everyone who loved them!” Klopp wrote on his official Instagram page.
