The House of Representatives removed the presidential yacht budgetary allotment on Thursday and transferred the suggested amount to student loans, raising the student loan allocation to ₦10 billion from ₦5.5 billion.
This was announced on Thursday when speaking to reporters by Abubakar Bichi Abubakar, the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. According to him, the insufficient financial allocation for students is what made the necessity urgent.
In response to security concerns, the Committee also raised the Ministry of Defense’s budgetary allotment from ₦476 billion to ₦546 billion.
Along with revealing that the minimum wage for workers was taken into consideration and approved for transmission to the executive branch, Bichi promised appropriate legislative oversight to guarantee 100% implementation.
The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, requested that the sum of ₦100 billion be retained for the FCT, and the House granted this request by passing the bill totalling ₦2.177 trillion.
