Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has opened up about his future in the sport, confirming that he is nearing the end of his mixed martial arts journey with a two-fight plan to close out his career “on his own terms.”

Usman described his retirement vision as a “dream scenario,” revealing that he wants to compete twice more before officially walking away from the Octagon.

The 37-year-old Nigerian-American, widely regarded as one of the greatest welterweights in UFC history, said his goal is to leave the sport with his legacy and pride intact.

In a daring plan to end his career, Usman has stated that he wants more than just to reclaim the welterweight belt as he prepares to return to the Octagon.

Usman was asked about retirement on his YouTube channel after mentioning UFC Hall of Famers Anderson Silva and Rashad Evans as two of his greatest childhood idols.

“The next part of my career—the dream scenario is: next fight, win the welterweight title,” Usman responded.

“Vacate. Win the middleweight title. Retire. Just boom boom, one-two, and then we’re done.

“You can’t top that—what else do I want to do?”

While he didn’t confirm exact opponents, sources close to his camp suggest Usman is eyeing a high-profile rematch and a farewell bout against a major name, potentially in Nigeria or on a global card with massive viewership.

Usman, who once held the UFC welterweight title with five successful defenses, last fought in 2023 and remains a respected veteran admired for his wrestling dominance, resilience, and leadership within the sport.
