The Commissioner of Education in Kano State, Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa, has inaugurated a 16-member committee to address the issue of constant encroachments on school lands.
Doguwa said the move is part of the Kano government’s commitment to tackling the persistent problem of trespass and land encroachment at various schools in the state.
The Commissioner, represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Kubra Imam, highlighted the committee’s terms of reference.
These include identifying schools affected by trespass or encroachment, examining the level of encroachment, identifying schools without perimeter wall fencing, and handling any issues that may arise during the committee’s findings,” he said.
He revealed that the committee is also tasked with providing appropriate recommendations based on its findings.
Hon. Habeeb Hassan El-Yakub, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Vocational Training, chairs the 16-member committee.
Other members include representatives from the Science and Technical Schools Board, State Universal Basic Education Board, Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board, Qur’anic and Islamiyya Schools Management Board, Chairman State Based Management Committee, State Chairman Parent Teachers Association, and former and current Land officers from the Ministry of Education.
The Commissioner urged individuals engaging in illegal development on school lands to stop immediately and await the government’s position.
The committee members expressed their gratitude for being chosen and pledged their commitment to completing the assignment within the stipulated time.
