Lawrence Igbinoghene Okoro has withdrawn from the gubernatorial nomination of the Labour Party in Edo state.
The political and business analyst made this known in a post on his official Twitter page.
Despite his withdrawal, the 35-year-old politician stated that he would never relent in his service to humanity.
The young politician also listed 10 reasons why he is pulling out from the race.
He wrote:
1) I can’t serve in a system that isn’t prepared for my service.
2) I can’t serve the masses and godfathers.
3) Labour Party has a lot of hidden matters in Edo state that are standing against the free candidature in the party.
4) Regional debate is overriding competence, character and capacity. They are agitating for an Esan governorship candidate than a competent one.
5) Age and marital status influenced a negative narrative.
6) Ideology and norms.
7) My quest for equality and fairness.
8) Monetization policies.
9) Absolute power.
10) Party principles.
He, however, reiterated his support for the party’s presidential candidate, saying:
”I remain 100% Obidient and cease to identify as a Labour Party member. I will stand as an opposition against the Tinubu-led administration while working tirelessly for a better Nigeria.
”In my capacity, Peter Gregory Obi remains my president and pioneer for a better Nigeria.”
Asked by one of his followers why he pulled out of the race so quickly, Okoro responded:
”I would rather dedicate that money to changing people’s lives than give it to a party that isn’t concerned about their struggles.”
The next governorship election in the south-south state will be held in 2024.
Incumbent chief executive Godwin Obaseki would complete his second four-year tenure by November 11, 2024.
